Black & White Exhibition
Event Identity / Product Design / Poster Design /
The Black and White Exhibition, previously called the Black and White Gala, is our annual art show for the students. The theme for this year is a celebration. We want it to be light-hearted. We are leaning to something with trees. We will have several lit trees lining the entryway as visitors enter.
Please Include these two verses below;
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own
understanding” Psalm 3:5
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8
Deliverables:
- 8.5 X 11-inch poster
- Invitation and RSVP
- Eventbrite rectangle (2160 x 1080px)

Initial Look & Revisions
In the original painting, the fig tree can have a wider range in values. I added darker values to increase the contrast and make it appear fuller.
The serif typeface for the exhibit title works but could
be stronger. So I changed it to a more elegant and bold script typeface, Great Vibes. I also paired it with a san serif called Montserrat.

To keep the traditional art feel across the designs I added ink splatters to move the viewer's eye from the left (tree placement) to the right.

The inspiration verses shared were about leaning on God and he will help you and growing strong roots so that when trouble comes we are prepared. Trees will be decorated around campus leading to the event. With a heavy tree inspiration, I chose to illustrate a fig tree. The fig tree is used in the bible during Jesus’ parable teachings. The ink splotches are to add to the artistic feel and help move the viewer's eye from the tree to the words on the invitation and posters.
